Season Notes

Premiership to be decided by Proportional Points system commencing this season (VFA Meeting 7 October 1887)

Minimum games to qualify for the Premiership is 18.

Only game played from May onwards counted by Association towards the Premiership.

Amalgamation of Williamstown and South Williamstown Football Clubs agreed at a meeting of the Williamstown Football Club and Williamstown Cricket Club on Wed 8 Feb 1888.

St Kilda and Prahran Football Clubs amalgamated and played as St Kilda in 1888 Season.

Permission granted by the Association for Hotham to change its name to North Melbourne (VFA Meeting 20 April 1888)
